Spiritual abuse in religious communities has proven to be every bit as damaging as sexual or physical abuse, yet it is rarely, if ever, addressed. This session will be an informed discussion of spiritual abuse, why we miss it, how to spot it, and how it intersects with issues of diversity and cultural power arrangements. There will be examples, discussion, and opportunities to share our own experiences.
Diana Goetsch (www.dianagoetsch.com) is a Tantric Buddhist practitioner and meditation instructor who has witnessed and studied spritual abuse in its various manifestations. She is also a poet and literary journalist, who resides in New York City.
