In our them-versus-us culture, is it possible to "love one another" anymore?  With social media mining our information and sending us only to the places we like? What about "loving our enemy"? Is it even possible?

Jim Brown, the author of Ending Our Uncivil War, insists that the answer is "yes." During our Saturday, January 19 Online Community Exploration he'll explain why. He'll share his experiences and focus on two of the four keys he uses to rise above the polarization that characterizes our current times: service commitment and spiritual renewal.

Brown, a Tennessee-based small business advocate, didn't come to this path easily. He traces his passion for fighting through biases to his work with homeless people. What began as a kind of check-the-box activity of liberal philanthropy has now become a mission. As described in this article,"the whole thing goes to a beautiful place where you’re now part of a community. And you’re part of a humanity you never knew existed before,” he said.

As part of his spiritual renewal, Brown has been on a kind of crusade to help people end what he calls the "uncivil war" that exists between people of different religious and political viewpoints.

In our Saturday exploration, he'll share some strategies he's used to break down these barriers, plus offer us some opportunities to practice bridge-building.

"Where can one turn and what can one do to invite a more mystical approach that sees value in every human being, even the worst person we know?," Brown asks.

You can learn more about Brown's work by visiting his website or listening to the podcast interview I conducted with him.
