Can we talk about free speech and censorship without shouting at each other? This Sacred Inclusion Network Exploration explores effective communication around one of today's most contentious issues. Adapting the proven Braver Angels approach, we'll move beyond polarized rhetoric to engage in respectful dialogue and deeper understanding.
This is not a debate. Our goal isn't to change anyone's mind on free speech and censorship. Instead, we'll focus on building bridges of communication:
- Understanding the "other side": Individuals with differing views on free speech and censorship will have a safe, structured space to share their perspectives and listen to others.
- Active listening: We'll practice truly hearing and acknowledging the concerns and values that underlie differing viewpoints.
- Finding common ground in our values: While we may disagree on specific solutions, we can often find shared values that underpin our concerns.
By participating, you'll be helping to pioneer new ways of engaging in constructive dialogue about even the most challenging issues.
For years, Braver Angels has successfully brought together citizens from across the political spectrum, fostering respectful dialogue and building understanding amidst disagreements. This workshop adapts their proven methods to navigate the complexities of free speech and censorship, empowering participants with communication skills applicable to any challenging conversation.
Join us to discover that even when we disagree, respectful conversation is possible.
This exploration will be facilitated by Jim Paisner, a member of the national moderator team of Braver Angels. He's been moderating local and national Braver Angels workshops since 2022 and practicing consensus-building for many years. Jim's background includes serving as the Chair of the Governing Board of Common Cause Massachusetts. He's also been a small business owner, a yoga teacher, and an Alexander Technique Teacher.
